Welcome

Welcome to the Winnipeg General Hospital (HSC) / Health Sciences Centre (HSC) Nursing Alumni website. Whether you are a graduate or a family member of a graduate, we are proud to share our history and the work of the Alumni with you.

Our Alumni was established in 1904 to actively promote friendship and collegiality among members, to support members in their educational goals, and to preserve the rich history of nursing, and the WGH and HSC. Over the past 113 years, a dedicated team of Alumni members have worked tirelessly to achieve these goals. Despite the closure of the School of Nursing in 1997 and a subsequent decline in Alumni membership, the Executive remains committed to the Alumni goals and the interests of our members. If you are interested in becoming involved with your nursing alumni, please contact an Executive member and we will find a place for you!

Early Alumni communication was through publication and mailing of the Alumni Journal. What an undertaking that must have been! In 2012, the Journal was replaced by a Newsletter mailed to all members annually. During that same year, the Alumni website was also born. We owe such gratitude to Karen Rodgers (‘90) and the website team for their hard work and determination that lead to the development of this website. Continued gratitude goes to Karen Rodgers for her ongoing efforts to maintain this important communication link with all Alumni members.

As we move into 2018, Karen and her team are working at updating our website – to meet the needs of our increasingly technological graduates. We value your feedback and suggestions to make this website inviting, informative and useful for all.

As Vice President (2015-2017), I had the privilege of meeting and working with so many incredible Alumni members – each with such passion and expertise for our Alumni. As incoming President (2017-2019), I hope to continue to learn from their wisdom - as we all continue to support the Alumni activities and goals.

We would love to hear from you! So please take the time to send us your thoughts, concerns and suggestions for this website in particular – and your Alumni in general.

Kathy Hamelin (’71), Alumni President
